Gina B. is from the village of Mambajao, Camiguin. She is 43 years old. Gina is widowed and has three school-aged children. To make a living, Gina makes and sells food. The main source of income for the business comes from selling longaniza (Philippine pork sausage) and barbecue in the local community. Gina also runs a sari-sari (variety) store.
In 2009, Gina joined HSPFI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Gina has successfully repaid a previous loan of 7,000 Philippine pesos from HSPFI. This previous loan was used to purchase another business. Gina is requesting a new loan of 10,000 PHP, which will be used to expand her longaniza business. This will be the third loan taken out by Gina from HSPFI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to support her and her children's daily needs.
HSPFI is one of the accredited partners of Opportunity International in the Philippines. It is based in Cagayan de Oro City and is reaching out to the poor households of Northern Mindanao.
