Mr. Chhai P. is 40 years of age and a married man. He is a local farmer and is also hired by neighbor to cook meals for their parties or ceremonies. He normally makes around US$ 5 in income each day to support his family. His wife stays at home to care for three teenaged children and does housework and also works on the farm.

Chhai P. grows his rice crop over months and he has to deal with the fact that his field is far from the water system. Therefore, Chhai P. would like to ask for a loan of US$ 1000 in order to buy a pump for irrigation. He proposes to use the rest of his loan to purchase a used motorbike for a traveling. Chhai P. was busy at his farm so his wife is shown instead.
