The APOSTOL SANTIAGO enterprising bank has been cooperating with our institution for 8 cycles, since 1997. This group is characterized by the fact that most of its members are merchants of beauty products, food supplies, and clothing. The group has grown cohesively and has become enterprising. JULIA has been with the group for a very long time and acts as its president; she sells food items at the minibus stops in the Chijini area. With the financing she was able to buy such things as oil, sugar, flour and pasta at wholesale to meet her demand. Julia has a large family and her orders have helped her improve her income. JAQUELINE is one of the founding members and currently acts as group secretary. She has a family of 3 members and she sells clothes in the city of La Paz. She travels as far as Yacuiba (on the border with Argentina) where she gets items like crockery and beauty items. With financing from the institution she was able to increase her working capital and her earnings thereby improving her family's quality of life. ROSMERY has been with the group for a long time and acts as its treasurer. She is a craftsperson and makes macrame blankets and sweaters. The financing has served to buy materials in large quantities in order to accumulate items to be sold during the Christmas season thus improving her income.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
