Bertha Harmidez is a very hard-working woman; she has run a small general store for the past 4 years. She started in order to meet her family's expenses despite the various challenges, such as the rising prices of some products. Her wish is that her business gets ahead so that it will be self-sustaining; she would also like to see her business expand. The requested financing will be used to buy soap, detergent, basic grains, snacks, and other household goods.

Bertha Harmidez esta señora tiene una pulpería, ella es una mujer muy trabajadora. Hace más de 4 años que se dedica a este negocio, ella inicio por la necesidad de cubrir los gastos de su familia, a pesar de los diferentes desafíos como es el aumento de los precios de algunos productos. Su deseo es que su negocio salga adelante para que sea auto sostenible además le gustaría que su negocio aumentara. El financiamiento que solicita es para capital de trabajo que será destinado para comprar jabón, detergente, granos básicos, golosinas, y otros productos para el hogar.


Important Information About This Loan
Kiva recently posted a message regarding the “No Pago” movement in Nicaragua (a movement for non-payment of loans). This movement, supported mostly by farmers of the north of Nicaragua with ties to the left-wing party in Nicaragua, has been organizing protests and had submitted a law to the government to create a moratorium on debt repayment. Initially it was unclear whether this law would pass, which would have had severe effects on the banking and microfinance industry in Nicaragua. However in the last month the executive branch rejected the law in its current form. The No Pago movement still exists but seems to have lost some steam. There is still a possibility that a law encouraging more restructuring of loans could pass next year, and microfinance institutions are voluntarily restructuring loans to delinquent borrowers, still increasing risk of lending in Nicaragua. However indications are that the situation is less dramatic than before.
