Fati is a 45 year old married mother of six; all of her children are in school. She lives with her husband and children in a rented apartment in Kade, a commerical town in the eastern region of Ghana. Although Kade is a commercial town, the majority of its inhabitants practice farming as a hobby or as a major occupation along side other trading activities. Fati is a food vendor who prepares and sells rice with stew. She sells her goods in the morning by the road side in her community. Fati buys the goods she requires for the business from nearby communities. She has been in business for seven years and is requesting this loan to procure bags of rice and other ingredients in bulk to expand her business.
