Molleccato Group

The members of our group, Molleccato, are clients of Asociación Arariwa. This communal bank consists of 11 members in Urcos, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urcos) a town about 1 hour from Cusco. There are 9 women and 2 men. All the group members live in Urcos and surrounding towns. Some are married with kids while others are single. The members speak Quechua, a local language.

The president of the group is Augusta. She was born in Urcos and is 48 years old. She now lives in Andahuayllas. She is a widow and has 6 children who live independently. She sells dry goods such as corn and chicha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicha) and has been doing so for the past 25 years. She will use this loan to buy more corn to sell and to make chicha.

The other members of Molleccato are involved in various commercial activities. Some sell goods in the local market. One of the women has been selling corn from her house for many years and will buy more corn to sell. Another woman raises and sells “lechon”, a young pig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suckling_pig), and will invest in more livestock.

All of the members of Molleccato appreciate and thank you for the loan and promise to pay the monthly payments on time.

About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
