Dou Yin's Group

There are four low-income people who have decided to request a loan, which they will use for a various purposes. Mrs. Dou Yin, 53 years of age, has been selected to be the leader of the loan. She currently lives with her eight children and her husband, who stays at home to weave bamboo baskets to sell. To earn a living, Dou Yin has owned a small handicraft business as a bamboo basket weaver since 1980. She saves up over one hundred sets of baskets before she sells them. Dou Yin lacks raw materials for her business so she requested a loan from Kiva in order to purchase more bamboo to make baskets. The other borrowers are:
Neang, a basket seller, is applying for a loan to use as capital to buy more items to sell.
Sophat, who sells bamboo baskets that she buys in bulk from her wholesale supplier, asks for a loan to purchase more baskets to meet the needs of her customers.
San will use her loan to purchase more raw materials to weave bamboo baskets.





About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
