Elizabeth is a 30-year-old divorced mother of one son who is in school. She lives with her child in a rented apartment in the town of Kade in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Kade is a commercial town, but the majority of its inhabitants practice farming as a hobby or as a major occupation along with other trading activities.
Elizabeth prepares and sells rice-porridge in the mornings. She hawks (sells door-to-door) in her community. Elizabeth buys the goods from nearby communities. She has been in business for eight years and wants a loan to buy bags of rice and other ingredients in bulk to expand her business.
