Comfort, age 35, is the married mother of two children, who are both still in school. She lives with her husband and children in a rented apartment in the town of Kade in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Kade is a commercial town, but the majority of its inhabitants practice farming as a hobby or as a major occupation in addition to other trading activities.
Comfort sells maize and other foods, such as yams. She buys her goods in nearby communities. Comfort sells in the local market and also treks to markets farther away. She has been in business for six years and wants a loan to buy goods in bulk.
