Mary Thompson

Mary Thompson is married and has five dependants. She has received education up to the senior high level. Mary sells smoked fish at Elmina seashore, which she has been doing since 1990. Her husband is a fisherman. Mary uses her income to support the husband in the payment of school fees and utility bills. Mary will use the loan to buy more fresh fish to smoke and fire wood for sale. With the new profits from her expanded business, Mary plans to save to build her own house and to reinvest.

To smoke her fish, she goes to the seashore to buy fresh fish from the fishermen. She comes home with the fish, cleans or dresses them and drains the water that comes about as a result of washing the fish. She prepares her traditionally made oven with firewood to smoke her fish for sale.
