The eight members of the Sabougnouman group are all married women, the majority in monogamous families. On average they are 31 years old with 4 children and live in the Djaka (Kirango) neighborhood of Markala (4th administrative Region of the republic of Mali). This group is united by bonds of kinship, marriage, friendship, and neighborhood. They are members of the traditional "Traoré Ton" association that gave its name to their current association. Their activity is the sale of fish in various forms. Sabougnouman is a group that collaborates with Soro Yiriwaso and that is on its 5th loan, after having repaid the preceding ones well. This new loan will be used to buy 10 baskets of fresh fish and 50 blocks of ice (furnished by the carriers coming from Bamako). They supply themselves with fresh fish on the spot by the river Niger. A good part of this fish is dried on gravel, on straw or on one of the "dryers". The fish is sold in various ways: the fresh fish are sometimes sold on the spot by the river, in Kirango and in Diamarabougou Markala in the market or on foot in the neighborhoods. The fresh fish is packed in ice and sold in Ségou (in the market house). Part of the dried fish is preserved until winter, when they earn more money and is sold in the markets of Dougabougou, Siribala, Boussin and Ségou. They generally sell the fish themselves to a cash clientele composed of women and men. They hope to realize a monthly average profit of 37,000 FCFA that will serve to satisfy their small family needs. Their ambition is to buy and raise animals in order to construct their own houses in the future.
