Everlinda has been a member of the Luz de San Antonio ("Light of Saint Anthony") Village Bank for the past eight months. Like her 12 fellow village bank members, she is looking to progress in life through her business.

Everlinda has worked as a seamstress for the past sixteen years. She is in a common-law marriage, has three children, two that are still in high school.

Despite the fact that she never studied dressmaking, she learned how to sew out of necessity. One day she got the bright idea to create capes for a beauty shop. How did she do it? She saw a model in a show and she bought the materials that she needed (patterns, silk polyester, needles and thread). Then she began to make them. She worked on these in the afternoons since in the mornings she took care of boarders.

Her current partner supported her in this work. Soon she was able to add a finishing machine and a special textile machine from the profits of the products and from the loans that she received.

A little while ago she received the terrible news that her partner was suffering from colon cancer. She had to use the little money that she had saved to buy medicine and for doctors’ visits. Because of this she let her business go for a while, but now she is working on it again. Her oldest son finally had to go to work to support her. She needs credit to buy the materials to make the clothing so that can pay her household expenses and for her children to continue studying in high school
