When Elsa Torres remembers the flames from a fire that destroyed her small investment, she also remembers that it was one of the hardest moment that she had to live through. She thought of how difficult it would be to overcome this loss. She had invested almost all of her capital in hew own business.

In spite of this, she and her work colleagues were able to get ahead and set up the market again. This cost her much sacrifice and tireless hours of working; but, they did it.

After the fire lots of people started to buy, the market was growing, and sales increased. Now it is one of the most important markets in the area. Elsa continues with her business selling stews and meats. She has lots of customers, and it is going very well for her. She wants to keep growing. That is why she works tirelessly. What she has achieved with her work is giving her husband help with the construction of her house and educating her children. All of this is thanks to a very dear friend who motivated her to work and become independent.

She knows that she has achieved many things and that new goals await her. What she desires most of all is to buy a stand where she can work. The one she has now is rented. She is saving to do this, and she knows that she will soon be able to do it.

The loan that she receives from Edaprospo will help her a lot. She needs to buy more products to offer to her “caseritas”, as she affectionately calls her customers. They always buy her products because she treats them well and offers them lower prices. This is her secret to success, and it makes her very happy.

Location: Location Undisclosed, Peru

This loan has been refunded for the following reason:

Kiva policy prohibits the publication of photos that were edited using software such as Photoshop. Because of a misunderstanding regarding Kiva policy, this edited photo was published on the site. Update on Group Geranios

Entrepreneur: Geranios Group
Location: Location Undisclosed, Peru

We had to refund this loan due to confusioion about Kiva's photoshopping policy but we thought you might still be interested in hearing about how Group Geranios' loan was going. We tried to talk to the president who was initially interviewed though she has run into money troubles and was embarrassed to talk with us. The other group members are helping her with her payments in the meantime so that the group does not go into default. While the group was figuring out how to make this months payment, we had the opporunity to meet with Senora Juana. Senora Juana has a beauty and clothes store which she shares with another group member. This allows her to leave the store in the hands with someone she trusts. They are both doing well with their payments and said the store is doing well, helped in part to the manikins she bought with her loan. She hopes to buy more display cases with her next loan to show off school supplies and backpacks for the upcoming school year.
