Donato is a 53-year-old dairy cow farmer and bricklayer. A single father of two children, Donato has been working with dairy cows for over 15 years now on a plot of land that he inherited from his father and that he shares with his brother. Some of the milk he produces goes to the local milk company, Pil, and the other part Donato uses to make soft cheese for sale in the markets. Donato lives in Maica Amba, which is a rural area behind the airport in Cochabamba's.
With Donato's recently paid-off CIDRE loan he purchased a dairy cow, an acquisition that has really helped to increase his earnings. With this second loan from CIDRE, he will purchase a high-quality dairy cow that should help him produce about 25 more liters of milk each day. This will greatly increase Donato's earnings and assist him in improving his children's quality of life .
CIDRE is a Bolivian microfinance institution with a strong social commitment to the community. It works to provide quality financial services to rural and peri-urban borrowers, focusing primarily on agricultural loans for dairy farmers and micro-enterprises. CIDRE targets segments of the population that have not traditionally had access to credit, and invests in much-needed community development projects. It is currently working with coca farmers in the Chapare region to replace coca with less controversial crops. Get more involved by joining the Friends of CIDRE lending team.
