Joana was born in the Namaacha village in the border with Suazilandia, in Mozambique. She is 43 years old and lives with her husband and six children with ages between 11 and 30. Five of them go to school, and the older one is employed. Besides her children, she also suports her five grandchildren. They all live in her house.

Joana got pregnant when she was in 7th grade, and her parents threw her out of the house. She couldn't continue her studies because she had to start working with her husband in the farms. Her husband has had other 4 wives and a total of 74 children, so Joana has to work hard to support herself and her children. She's been in this business for the past 25 years, and she has no employees, but counts with the help of children and sons-in-law. Her best selling product is corn. Her husband is now in the hospital and she has several medical bills to pay.

She's asking for a 25.000,00MT (U$875) loan in order to invest in her business and make more money in the near future. She'll use the loan to work the land and buy seeds and fertilizers. She's positive she'll be able to pay the loan back on time.
