Agnes is a 46-year-old widow with five children aged between 15 and 23 years, all of whom go to school. She resides in and owns a four-roomed house in the outskirts of Kampala where she lives with six people. She also takes care of additional family members.
Agnes owns a stall at her home where she sells charcoal. She has been in this business for seven years and with MCDT for three years and is servicing her sixth loan. She doesn’t pay rent for her business premises because she works from her home.
Agnes sells to all categories of people both in retail and wholesale. She buys sacks of charcoal from Kyankwanzi in Mubende district and so she incurs transport costs to and from villages. Her challenges include transportation and the rainy season.
Agnes wants to use this loan to buy more sacks of charcoal. She is aspiring to seeing her business grow stronger and to begin selling wholesale only.
