Mr. Vai D. is 28 years of age and currently lives in the province of Battambang, Cambodia. He is a married man and father of two school-aged kids. While his wife (she appears in photo) stays at home to sell a variety items for income. She sells like vegetables, pork, fruits, chicken, and other cooking ingredient for villagers. Vai D. owns a small pumping machine which he uses to pump sand from River to sell for a profit. Unfortunately, his machine often has broken down during the pumping process. To solve the problem, Vai D. requests a loan of US$1000 which he will use for repairing his broken machine and use the rest of the loan to help increase the capital of his wife’s business.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
