Mr. Riel S., 41, is a Civil Service officer for the Ministry of Fisheries. He is married to Em Rina, age 41, a local teacher. The couple has six children: four are single and two are married and live separately.
The family cultivates a rice crop. The rice-farming season is coming and Riel S. would like a loan from Kiva. He will use the loan to hire a laborer to plow his farmland and to purchase farming materials such as seed, fertilizer and a pump for irrigation.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
