The Buen Pastor group is located in the old market in the city of San Lorenzo. It is comprised of three women, all neighbors and business women. They have known each other for a long time. Below are details of the different activities they do.

Maria Pricila Ozorto Colindres is 42 and a single mother. She has been selling fruit for ten years. Maria needs a loan to buy a greater variety of fruits. Many people consume this product. Fruits, besides being a food, are very healthy and rich in vitamins. That is why people eat so much fruit in our country. Also, they are much cheaper in comparison to the prices in other countries.

Zoila Ernestina Alvarado is 43. She lives in a common law marriage with Jose Francisco Hernandez, and they have two children who are dependent upon them. Zoila sells wholesale tortillas in the old market in San Lorenzo. She also sells in her house by order and for retail. She is asking for a loan to buy corn and wood. Due to the drought, the corn will be more expensive, and she wants to have enough raw materials to make the tortillas.

Kledyn Yolibeth Rivera Flores is 23. She lives in a common law marriage with Yeslin Mauricio Rivas. They have two small children. He is a bricklayer, and she sells tamales and fried pork. She has had her business for many years. With the business she has been able to get ahead with her family. The business is located in the old market of San Lorenzo. She is asking for a loan to buy pork and materials to make the tamales.

All of them need the loan to get ahead with their families. These businesses are their only sources of income.

Dear Lender,

Thank you for supporting an entrepreneur in Honduras! The message below is from Prisma Honduras S.A., Kiva’s field partner in Honduras. As you may know, all borrowers’ profiles are posted on Kiva’s website with the help of microfinance institutions (MFIs) such as Prisma Honduras.

Prisma Honduras wishes to extend their thanks to all the Kiva lenders, and Kiva staff, who during the financial and political crisis that Honduras has been experiencing have continued to support our clients by funding our loans, even knowing that the situation in Honduras has been difficult since the political crisis in June 2009. Our people have suffered a lot, but they still have the inner strength to keep fighting and overcome the difficulties for the good of their family and because they have no other place to live.

Our country is trying to move beyond the political crisis after the elections of the 29th of November. We hope to continue with the valuable support you give by funding our loans and our people. Our goal is to help our clients achieve a better quality of life, by helping to improve their businesses which can help contribute to their food security and that of their families.
