Liz Abigail E. F. is the one sitting in the picture holding her child. She is 25 years old and lives with her partner with whom she has two small children. She is part of the group “Siempre Adelante” along with 8 other people who are all hard workers who live in the Comas district.

Mrs. Abigail sells beauty products to her family and friends for a living. She goes to their homes to make her sales and tells us that she enjoys this work a lot because she gets to meet people, see her friends and family often, and above all because it gives her time to both take care of her children and to spend time them.

Thanks to her job, she can support her husband when he’s without work since he doesn’t have stable employment. She is also able to take care of her children’s expenses like clothing, private teachers, and outings.

She would like to be able to move her eight year old to a private school (which she plans on doing next year).
With this loan, she plans to invest in the purchase of shoes that she will sell in the same way she sells beauty products.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
