Heidi
In 2006, Heidi and her husband decided that they were tired of working for other people and wanted to earn money on their own. Once they found a coffee shop for sale on the internet, they knew buying it was the perfect chance to take. Over the last three years, they have invested significant amounts of time and money into renovating the cafe, even cashing in their 401k. Many of the cafe's customers had left when the cafe became run-down, before Heidi and her husband bought it. Their hard work has paid off - they have been able to get back many old customers, who remark how positive the new management has been for the business.

They will use this ACCION USA loan to help remodel their kitchen so that they can add new equipment, like a deep fryer and a basic stove, to add more food items like soups, sandwiches, and french fries to their menu. With these new items, they think they can increase their profit margin.

In the past, Heidi has used credit cards as a cash cushion/emergency fund when unforeseen expenses come up, but she says that interest rates are so high nowadays that the convenience is not worth the price. She is thankful that she was able to receive the ACCION USA loan so that she will not have to pay so much interest.

In the future, Heidi plans to grow the coffee by opening up in more locations and possibly roasting her own coffee beans. She looks forward to the day when she can hopefully pass the business down to her children!
