Señora Maria Lucrecia S. is 41 years old, and lives in the Memorial Sandino neighborhood in the capital city of Managua. She has a 13-year old daughter who is in secondary school. Her plan is to finish construction on her house, which still has a ground floor of dirt, and is lacking plaster on the walls. She desires to have a decent home for her family. Previously, she sold cosmetics but the sales were low, and did not cover her expenses, which caused her to look for a steady job. This loan will begin her third cycle with AFODENIC, and will be used to purchase zinc and other materials to repair the roof of her house, which is in bad condition. She is grateful to the institution for this loan, since it will now be possible to make improvements to her home.

About Housing Loans
Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
