Eduardo
Eduardo G. R. is a 49-year old man who lives with his wife and three children in a town called las Nubes in the region of Los Chiles, Alajuela province; this community is located in a mountainous areas near the country's northern border. The region's main economic activities are raising cattle and agriculture, more specifically staple crops such as sugar cane and oranges.

From an early age, don Eduardo has cultivated pineapple and has vast experience with the care and growth of this crop; he has a small plot of land where he grows pineapples with good results when he takes the produce to market. For this reason he wishes to expand the area under cultivation, to continue to provide well for his family.

Eduardo is requesting a small loan of ¢500,000 (five hundred thousand colones), in order to buy small pineapple plants to grow as well as other products to maintain the crop and better his harvest. In this way, he will be able to increase production considerably.

Don Eduardo is a member of the Communal Credit Association of Las Nubes, one of 100 organizations within EDESA in Costa Rica. This loan would be his third and he expects it will benefit his business and personal finances as a result. He also notes that prior loans have allowed him to dedicate more time to productive activities.

Eduardo G. R. es un señor de 49 años de edad el cual vive con su esposa y sus tres hijos en una comunidad llamada las Nubes localizada en los chiles, provincia de Alajuela; está comunidad se destaca por ser una zona montañosa y por estar muy cerca de la frontera norte de nuestro país. Sus principales actividades económicas son la ganadería y la agricultura específicamente se da la siembra de granos básicos, caña de azúcar, naranja.

Desde muy joven don Eduardo se ha dedicado a la siembra de piña, por lo tanto, dice que tiene bastante experiencia en el cuidado y mantenimiento de esta clase de cultivo tiene un terreno en el cual ha sembrado piña anteriormente y le ha dado muy buenos resultados a la hora de distribuirlo por lo cual desea expandir su plantación, ya que gracias a este negocio la calidad de vida de su familia ha mejorado considerablemente.

Lo que en estos momentos solicita don Eduardo es un micro crédito de ¢500,000 (quinientos mil colones), para comprar hijos de piña, y diferentes insumos para dar el mejor mantenimiento y asistencia posible a su cosecha, así al final podrá ser recompensado y podrá tener una muy buena producción.

Don Eduardo es socio de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal Las Nubes, una de las 100 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Este será su tercer préstamo y con él espera crecer más a nivel personal y económico. También destaca que gracias a este tipo de organizaciones y medios facilitadores de crédito puede dedicar más tiempo a las actividades productivas.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
