Mbasa L., aged 40, chairs the Community Bank "Béthanie Plus" made up of 36 members and located in Kisangani in the Eastern Province, north-east of the equator in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.The province borders in the north Sudan and in the north-east Uganda. It was the scene of several wars, mainly the war in 2000 when two foreign armies confronted each other in the city and caused thus a lot of destruction and loss of human lives. Currently the economy of the city is gradually recovering, notably thanks to small business owners such as Mbasa L..


Mbasa began his activity in 1982 and has acquired a solid experience. He is a regular client of Microfinance Institution HOPE DRC; he received six loans and repaid them on schedule. His next loan will enable him to buy more sacks for resale and increase his income. He earns a profit of $90 a week from this activity. The goal of Mbasa and his wife is to enable their children to study. They have ten children aged from 4 months to 20 years and only eight of them attend school. Mbasa is determined to develop his business with the financial help of Kiva loans.

Mbasa L. 40 ans, est président de la Banque Communautaire dénommée « Béthanie Plus » composée de 36 membres, située à Kisangani dans la province Orientale, au nord-est de la ligne de l’Equateur en République Démocratique du Congo. Cette province est frontalière au nord avec le Soudan et avec l’Ouganda au nord-est. Elle a été victime de plusieurs guerres, surtout celle de 2000 an dont deux armées étrangères se sont affrontées dans la ville causant ainsi beaucoup de dégâts et pertes en vies humaines.
Aujourd’hui, la vie économique reprend progressivement dans la ville, surtout avec le concours des micro-entrepreneurs dont Mbasa L. fait partie. Il a commencé son activité en 1982. Il en a acquit une expérience solide et est demeuré client fidèle qui a obtenu 6 fois les prêts de l’IMF HOPE RDC et les a remboursés correctement. Le prochain crédit lui permettra de renforcer le stock de sa marchandise en achetant d’autres sacs à revendre en vue d’accroitre le revenu. Son affaire lui procure hebdomadairement un bénéfice de $90. L’objectif de Mbasa et son épouse, est de faire étudier leurs 10 enfants qui sont âgés entre 4 mois et 20 ans dont 8 seulement vont à l’école. Mbasa est déterminé à développer son activité avec l’appui financier de Kiva à travers ces prêts.
