As a grandmother, Mariana's main priority is her grandchildren, and providing a good life and education for them. Providing for her family is one of the reasons she opened her store when she came to the U.S. 22 years ago. She started selling hair accessories on the street in Upper Manhattan when she came to New York from Ecuador, after having a similar business back in her home country. She is very proud that she was able to open a shop and truly become successful in this country.

With the profits from her business, Mariana helps her son with his university expenses so that he can become a successful, educated worker. Her son helps her, in return, by working for her as a salesman from time to time.

Mariana heard about ACCION USA from a friend who recommended she take a loan to develop credit. She will use this loan to purchase back-to-school items, such as backpacks and school supplies, along with fall accessories, that she will sell in her store. She plans to work as hard as possible to expand her business and be able to hire more people in her community. She also hopes to help her son succeed and to help pay for her grandchildren's education, too.
