Mitsi D. V. is 26 years old and is married with one child. She and her husband work together in the timber business. They live in the city of Pucallpa.
Mitsi has been working with Kiva partner Manuela Ramos for about a year and a half and is a member of the communal bank “Las Triunfadoras” (The Winners). She invested her very first loan of 300 soles (about $100) in the sale of condiments, a business that she had at that time. Nowadays, Mitsi is working full time with her husband in the timber business. She will use this loan of 1700 soles to purchase wood at Pucallpa’s port along the Ucayali, a wide brown river that flows past the city and eventually joins the Amazon to the north. Mitsi and her husband process the wood into boards.
Mitsi’s goal is to purchase a planer and another machine for the small sawmill that she and her husband have been operating for the past 6 months. In this way she hopes to offer better service to their customers.
