A loan of $650 helped a borrower to purchase fertilizer and insecticide for his crop.

Carlos Azarel's story

Carlos is a young, hard-working farmer. He has lived in a Santa Cruz de Yojoa village with his family for a number of years.

Carlos has dedicated himself to growing taro and yucca since he was twelve years old. His family's plots of land are very fertile and they get good harvests from the land.

Carlos is a hard-working and responsible person who, through his own efforts, has managed to meet all of his goals. He is requesting the loan to purchase supplies to help his taro and yucca plants. He will buy fertilizer and insecticide so he can adequately maintain his crop.

Carlos's dream is to be able to expand his crop and make improvements to his home so that his family can have a more dignified place to live.

This loan is special because:

It has a below-market interest rate and is repaid at harvest, when farmers can more easily repay.
