A loan of $875 helped to buy compost, fertilizer, and insecticide.

Marco Tulio's story

Marco is a 43-year-old man who lives in the community of Aguazul. On the shores of the beautiful Lake Yojoa, he has managed to form a family full of dreams and aspirations.

Fifteen years ago Marco decided to dedicate his efforts to agriculture, and saw in the yucca and "malanga" [a tuber similar to a sweet potato] crops the opportunity to generate income to support his family. In a country where the opportunities are very scarce he has gotten ahead in life thanks to his dedication and working spirit. He is soliciting the loan in order to buy compost, fertilizer, and insecticide in order to provide good maintenance to his crops.

It has cost him to get the land where he farms. Today his dream is to get the funds to be able plant another plot of yucca and malanga, and to have better production and thus improve his income for the wellbeing of his family.

This loan is special because:

It has a below-market interest rate and is repaid at harvest, when farmers can more easily repay.
