A loan of $1,150 helped to buy sacks of rice, vegetables, oil, etc.

Marlene María's story

Marlene is a shopkeeper in the municipality of Barranquilla. She lives with her partner and she is the mother of two adult children.

Her business started years after her partner lost his job and had to make a living selling meat brought in from Arroyo Hondo, a town in Bolívar, and other foods that later included coastal cheese, rice, and oil. Little by little they expanded their offerings, even converting their business into a store.

Today, this work has allowed her to have a better life, not only for herself but also for her family, and this is why she wishes to continue progressing.

She is currently requesting economic support from the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo through a Kiva loan, with which she hopes to stock her store with new merchandise. She plans to buy sacks of rice, vegetables, oil, etc.

With this loan, she will continue to improve her business, contributing to and benefiting her household. Help her with this loan.
