M. Emmanuel is a businessman with a bar that he has owned for 8 years. He is a person who has worked hard for his family and business to the extent that he would like to see his bar grow much farther. At the moment, Emmanuel is able to make weekly profits worth 40,000/=, and his main challenge is that at times he gets threats of robbery. He is becoming conscious of buying his stock during the day and avoiding late nights.

Emmanuel needs a loan to be able to restock his bar with more beers, spirits and wines so that he will be able to make more profit. He is a married man with 4 children as he cares for 1 orphan plus paying their school fees and general upkeep.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
