Miriam is 29 years old. She is married and has two children. Miriam makes wallets, purses, earring stands, dolls and other items by hand. Her husband is an environmental engineer specializing in forestry.
Miriam has been working with Manuela Ramos, a Kiva field partner for one year and is a member of the "Las Almendras" (The Almonds) communal bank. She used her first loan of 300 soles (about $100) to invest in materials for making her handicrafts. Miriam will use this loan of 1500 soles to purchase materials for making hand-painted earring stands and hand-sewn purses.
Miriam's loans and her involvement with Manuela Ramos have enabled her to further develop her craft business. Miriam's goal is eventually to have her own workshop and store for her hand-made goods.
