San S. O. is a 48-year-old woman, married to Ou Choeun, age 51, and they both appear in the picture here. This old couple lives with four school-aged children and earns a living by planting various crops O. their own farmland. San S. O. currently plants a potato crop, which she will harvest and collect her productivity when they are mature. Recently, her crop is not growing well because it is ravaged by insect and lawn. Because of that obstacle, San S. O. has decided to seek a loan to buy insecticide, which she will use to protect her crop.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
