Mrs. Khom C. is a farmer who owns a plot of land on which she cultivates rice to earn for living. In this plantation, she faces an obstacle because she does not have enough money to produce rice on the field. Thus, she decided to ask for a loan to cultivate rice on her field. Her husband, Mr. Huot Phoeun, is a hardworking man. Mrs. Khom C. has two children, one of whom is employed in a garment factory while the other is a farmer who helps with his parents’ work.

Ten members in this group loan are end-of-term (EoT) loans and the rest have monthly payment loans. Those having EoT loans are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. EoT loans are AMK’s main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and a default rate of 0% on Kiva.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
