Fatmata S. is a small-scale businesswoman in the city of Makeni, in northern Sierra Leone. Fatmata is requesting a loan of Le 3,000,000 from Kiva lenders in order to boost her business. With the help of a loan, Fatmata will be able to expand her business so that both sales and profit will improve for her. As such, Fatmata’s living standard will improve; she will be able to better look after herself, her children, and other family members.

Fatmata is thirty-two years of age. She was born in Makeni and is married to a businessman; they have four children. Two of her children are in Junior Secondary schools and the other two are in primary schools. Fatmata sells ground-nuts; palm-oil (the most popular cooking oil), pepper and other locally produced market-food. She has been a businesswoman for ten years now.

About Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT)

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is Kiva’s oldest field partner in Sierra Leone. SMT began operations in 2002 as a microcredit program of the NGO Child Fund Sierra Leone under a USAID program to assist the reintegration of ex combatants back into their communities.
