Betty's Group
In this Group: Betty, Sarah, Kizza, Dorothy, Goretti, Lillian, Cathy
Betty N. is the leader of the Nyikira Okole group in Kikajjo. She is a very hardworking 30-year-old mother of 2 children, aged 4 and 7, who also cares for 2 orphans belonging to her late sister. Betty has owned and operated the Seaman Bar for 3 years, and so far her business is good. It’s from the profits derived from the bar that she is able to pay school fees for her dependents plus their general care. She hopes to expand the bar with more space, and more beers and sodas, once she has access to the loan, since she hopes to buy a plot of land with the proceeds. She still has her hopes of one day owning a beer and soda depot to be able to supply other retailers.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
