Men T. was born in 1944 and is the mother of four children, two married and living independently and two single and working in a garment factory. Men T. and her husband inherited a plot of farmland from their grandparents and they use this land to cultivate a rice crop to earn a living. With the coming rice season Men T. hopes to earn additional revenue by using a Kiva loan as capital to order rice from farmers to store and sell later when it commands a higher price.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
