42-year old Sergio M. is married and has three children; the eldest is 22, the second is 20, and the youngest is 9. Only his son, the 9-year old, is still dependent on him as the two older children are married. Sergio has worked as a cleaner in Juigalpa’s town hall for seventeen years.

He is asking for his first loan to finish the construction of a bedroom in the yard of his house so that his daughter and her husband can enjoy more privacy and comfort. He has already built the walls, but the room lacks a roof, which will need tiling, and also doors.

Sergio’s greatest dream is to be able to support his children in whatever way he can as that is the only gift he can bequeath them.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
