Julián Obando Mercado

Julián Obando Mercado is 48 years old and lives with his wife, who works and helps him cover household expenses, in the San José Los Rios neighbourhood located in the municipality of Ticuantepe. They have three adolescent children who attend school and work in their free time. He plans to improve his family’s living conditions.

Julián has worked in agriculture for 20 years. He started out with the help of agrarian reform. He plans to diversify his crops.

With this loan, he will purchase fertilsers and supplies to produce a good yield to sell at a good price in the market. He thanks AFODENIC for making these beneficial improvements on his farm possible.

El señor Julián Obando Mercado, tiene la edad de 48 años, habita en el barrio San José Los Ríos, ubicado en el municipio de Ticuantepe , junto a su esposa la cual trabaja y le apoya con los gastos del hogar , ellos tiene tres hijos , todos adolescentes , los cuales estudian y trabajan con el en sus tiempos libres , los planes hacia su familia es mejorar las condiciones de vida , desde hace 20 años , don Julián se dedica a la agricultura, el inicio esta actividad con ayuda de la reforma agraria , los planes hacia su cultivo es diversificarlo . Con el préstamo va a comprar fertilizantes e insumos y poder tener una buena producción para vender a buen precio al mercado. Da las gracias a la institución por hacer posible las mejoras a sus cultivo lo que lograra buenos beneficios.


Important Information About This Loan
Kiva recently posted a message regarding the “No Pago” movement in Nicaragua (a movement for non-payment of loans). This movement, supported mostly by farmers of the north of Nicaragua with ties to the left-wing party in Nicaragua, has been organizing protests and had submitted a law to the government to create a moratorium on debt repayment. Initially it was unclear whether this law would pass, which would have had severe effects on the banking and microfinance industry in Nicaragua. However in the last month the executive branch rejected the law in its current form. The No Pago movement still exists but seems to have lost some steam. There is still a possibility that a law encouraging more restructuring of loans could pass next year, and microfinance institutions are voluntarily restructuring loans to delinquent borrowers, still increasing risk of lending in Nicaragua. However indications are that the situation is less dramatic than before.
