Hun C. is twenty-five years old and has been involved in her weaving business since 1999 at her village in Takeo Province. Her typical income is $3 a day. The Cambodian method of weaving requires hard work and a long time to create the best products for competitive pricing at the markets. Therefore, she has to work very hard and pay close attention to this task every day. Although weaving has been their primary income to ensure a comfortable standard of living, Hun really wants to take out a loan of $1000 to purchase a machine for her husband to charge batteries for his villagers. There is no electrical service in the village yet.
