Sr. Oscar S. is 27 years old and married. He is a weaver by profession and makes “traditional women’s skirts”. Together with his wife, they operate a 2 loom workshop and have one employee. For six years they have been making skirts out of their home in the Tzansiguan neighborhood in the village of Vásquez, Totonicapán district, Guatemala. Now that customer demand has increased, they do not have sufficient finances to grow their business. For this reason, Sr. Oscar has requested a loan from Asociación ASDIR to buy raw materials needed to increase his sales.

El señor Oscar S. tiene 27 años de edad, es Casado de oficios tejedor, “elaboración de cortes típicos para mujeres” cuenta con un taller de 2 telares, habita junto a sus esposa, él y su esposa se dedican al mismo oficio cuentan con un empleado para la misma actividad, lleva 6 años de elaborar cortes en su residencia que se encuentra en el Caserío Tzansiguan, Aldea Vásquez, del departamento de Totonicapán, Guatemala, actualmente la demanda de su clientela a crecido, pero las condiciones económicas en que se encuentra no son suficientes para que el pueda aumentar su capital, por tal razón acudió a la Asociación ASDIR, a solicitar un préstamo, con la intención de comprar materia prima y de esa manera poder aumentar sus ventas.

ASDIR (Asociación de Desarrollo Integral Rural - Association for the Development of Rural Communities) is a community-based organization that works to promote development in the villages and communities where it serves. It was founded in 1999 in the village of Nimasac, Totonicapán Department, by a handful of local men and women to support community projects and group loans. Today ASDIR has 5 offices across 3 departments (Totonicapán, Sololá and Suchitepéquez) serving more than 6,000 clients, most of them in rural communities.
