He is very proud of his business since it has had the support of the community and the neighboring areas from the beginning. With the help of his brother, Don Andrés is able to keep his business afloat.


At the moment, Don Andrés is requesting a loan of 685,000 colones ($1200 USD) to buy sound amplification equipment. He hopes this will help his microenterprise grow and generate more income to improve his living conditions. Don Andrés is a member of the Community Credit Corporation of San Cristobal Norte (SACRIN), one of the 100 partner organizations affiliated with EDESA in Costa Rica. He has received 2 previous microloans, which he has repaid responsibly. He says “thank you” for the chance to develop and grow as a person.

Andrés R. R. es un señor de 32 años de edad, vecino de una comunidad rural de Costa Rica situada 45 kilómetros al sur de San José llamada San Cristóbal Norte. San Cristóbal es una zona un poco montañosa donde se desarrollan actividades como el comercio, agricultura de hortalizas, café y otros, artesanía, ganadería y muchas otras actividades. Don Andrés vive con su esposa y su hija.

Desde hace 10 años aproximadamente que don Andrés se dedica a la animación de eventos brindando servicios de discomóvil, karaoke, serenatas rancheras, entre otros en actividades como matrimonios o fiestas. Dice que se siente muy orgulloso de su proyecto ya que desde que inició en su comunidad y en lugares vecinos lo han apoyado mucho. Con la ayuda de su hermano, don Andrés mantiene a flote su negocio.

En estos momentos lo que desea don Andrés es solicitar un préstamo por ¢685,000 (seiscientos ochenta y cinco mil colones) para comprar un equipo para la amplificación del sonido. Con esto espera que su microempresa crezca y llegue a generar ingresos para mejorar su condición de vida.
Don Andrés es socio de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal San Cristóbal Norte (SACRIN), una de las 100 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Ha recibido 2 microcréditos y los ha cancelado responsablemente. Comenta que Gracias a esto ha podido desarrollarse mejor y crecer como persona.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
