Adelaida M. is from the village of Villaflor, Oroquieta City, Missamis Occidental. She is 45 years old and married with four adult children. Adelaida owns a sari-sari (general) store. Her income comes primarily from selling daily-use products such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc. to the local community. She has been in this business for over seven years and earns approximately 2000 PHP per month.
In 2009, Adelaida joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her business activities and living situation. She is requesting a loan of 5000 PHP to purchase additional products to sell. This will be her first loan from GDMPC. She plans to put any additional revenue back into her business to continue to grow it.
GDMPC is one of the most progressive cooperatives in Mindanao, Philippines. It has four branches and three unit offices covering the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental. Its membership composed mostly of farmers, fisher folks and small entrepreneurs.
