Yaa B. is thirty-eight years old. She is not married and has no child. She lives with two of her nieces in a rented apartment in Dwenase, a suburb of Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western Region of Ghana.
Yaa is a fishmonger and sells smoked fish. She sells the fish on a table at the market square and also supplies to retailers and food vendors in her community. She buys cartons of fresh fish from big cold stores in Kumasi and smokes them herself. She has been in business for four years and wants a loan to buy fish in bulk. She desires to expand her business and improve upon her standard of living.
