A loan of $750 helped buy supplies for catering business.

Lucia's story

Sra. Lucia belongs to the Nino Jesus de Praga ["Baby Jesus of Prague"] community bank in the Peruvian "departamento" of Puno. She is 43 years old, married and the mother of 5 children, all still living at home. She finished elementary school and lives in the Santa Barbara neighborhood.

Lucia has worked with the Manuela Ramos movement for 10 years, beginning with a S/.300 [300 new soles] loan which she used for her ceviche sales business. She now needs a S/.2,200 loan to invest in the same business. She will buy supplies for making ceviche such as fish, vegetables, sweet potatoes, lemons and so on. She goes to the market in Yunguyo every day to sell.

Lucia's greatest hope is to see her children settled in professional careers

Lucia enjoys her community bank's meetings and get-togethers, the way it grants loans and chatting with the other bank members.
