Paglaum MPC was created to give programs and services to those who are in need of financial assistance and to provide training with regard to business. Jethro O. became a member of Paglaum in July of 2008. Jethro lacked financial capital for his sari-sari store. (The word sari-sari is Tagalog for "various kinds".) Jethro had only enough money to build the variety store. He is requesting PHP 20,000 to buy additional goods for sale. He is thankful that he now has income for his family. In the future, Jethro hopes to expand his business to a mini-grocery store and for his family to have a house of their own.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
