Maria, a single mother of two, has always loved children. She received her degree in child psychology and worked in the field for more than 35 years before moving to California and opening her own daycare.
In 2008, Maria got her first loan from Opportunity Fund and opened a daycare in her home. Today she cares for three children and focuses on educational activities such as memory games, shapes and color recognition, alphabet sounds and letters.
Maria is ready to care for more children, but needs to invest in more supplies to do so. With an $8,000 loan, Maria will be able to purchase new equipment and educational supplies and to buy a computer and printer.
Maria is going back to get her preschool teacher certification and expand her business.
Kiva realizes that access to credit is a challenge for entrepreneurs everywhere. Kiva started out as a website focused on developing-world entrepreneurs. In June 2009, Kiva began experimenting with allowing entrepreneurs in the United States to raise money on its website. If this is something you support, please feel free to fund this loan.
