S. Bùi Thị is forty-five years old and married with three grown children. She lives in the town of Ninh Giang. To make a living, S. owns a business selling rice products in the local community. She has been engaged in this business for over twenty years and earns approximately $170 a month from these activities.
In 2002, S. joined TYM Fund, a Kiva field partner, to gain access to financial services that enabled her to engage in business activities which would help improve her living situation. S. has successfully repaid previous loans from TYM Fund. These previous loans were used to invest in expanding the business. She is now requesting a new loan that will be used to purchase raw ingredients needed to make the rice products she sells. This will be her seventh loan from TYM Fund. S. plans to use the additional revenue generated by this loan to improve and expand her business.
