Margaret is a food vendor who sells waakye. Waakye is a cooked rice and beans dish enjoyed with stew, macaroni and fish. It is sold in the mornings as breakfast. It is very tasty and satisfying and almost all tribes in Ghana enjoy waakye.
Margaret is 34 years old and married with five children who are currently in school. She wants to use this loan to buy more bags of rice, vegetable oil, beans, and macaroni to prepare good waakye for her customers. She believes this will provide her with increased income to send her first son to medical school this year.
She belongs to the Sharp Trust Group. In this community group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral to access loans and there is peer pressure to repay the loan.
