Epefania T. lives in Tubod, Aloran, Misamis Occidental. She is sixty-one years old and married with eleven children. Her husband drives a “habal-habal” (a motorcycle without a cab used to transport people). Her husband's income is not enough to provide for all of this big family's daily needs. They would like to buy pump boat motor for their small boat, which will be used for fishing. (A pump boat is a small racing boat.)
Epefania has been a member of Kiva's field partner, Paglaum Coop, since June of 2005. She has already received several loans from them. Today, she is asking for a loan to buy a pump boat motor. She wants to save for a better future.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
