This group of borrowers consists of three people. Its leader, Mrs. C., 45, makes a living selling Chinese noodles and porridge in the busy market. She generates an income of approximately US$ 6 each day and started her business back in 2004. Her husband, Savorn, 50 years old, is a staff member for an organization. The humble couple are responsible for two teenage children, both attending school.

C.'s business is running very well and she has gained much profit because she cooks tasty foods for her customers. To earn additional income, C. is looking for a loan to increase her business capital in order to meet her customer's demands.

The other two borrowers are:

B. T., who works as a local chef for wedding parties; she needs a loan as capital to buy wedding equipment so she can rent it out to gain additional income; and

H. who owns a small laundry and provides a clothes-washing service. She is applying for a loan to add to her savings to purchase a used car for her husband to use as a taxi.

The borrowers are people living in Battambang Province.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
